Service Opportunities - General Information
Expectation and tasks of the volunteer
Expectation: We expect all volunteers to have completed the full Ruhi sequence from Books 1 to 7 and to have experience with running children's classes, junior youth groups and study circles.
Required skills and experience
Minimum age - 19 years. Experience in running all core activities. Personal qualities of flexibility, patience, humility, willingness to adapt to village life (with only basic facilities) and readiness to take initiative. Language - should be willing to learn Bislama (pidgin English), which is the lingua franca. English is understood and spoken by many people. Ability to speak in French would be an advantage but is not a requirement.
Support
Accommodation is provided at the school. However, the volunteer should bring his/her own money for food and other expenses, and be ready to contribute to households who are providing hospitality. Volunteers should note that malaria and hepatitis are endemic in some parts of the country, and should take appropriate precautions before they come.
